Sree Supranayi, a 25-year-old Indian entrepreneur, is on a mission to revolutionize space exploration and manufacturing. With a passion for space and a dream of making it a hub for industrial innovation, she co-founded AnduraX, a startup focused on developing reusable spaceplanes. Supranayi's journey began with a childhood fascination with space and a desire to explore the cosmos, inspired by her mother's tales of a lunar civilization. Despite physical constraints preventing her from becoming an astronaut, she pursued aerospace engineering, driven by her father's philosophy of dedication and her own aspirations.
AnduraX aims to make space-based manufacturing commercially viable by leveraging microgravity to produce purer materials and larger protein crystals, reducing the time needed for drug discovery. The startup's initial challenge was securing funding, but Supranayi's family and government grants provided the necessary support. AnduraX's first high-altitude balloon drop experiment in May 2026 validated key guidance, navigation, and control technologies, marking a significant step towards their goal.
The company's ultimate vision is to take humans into space using their spaceplane, with plans for demonstration missions by 2028 and cargo operations for the Bharatiya Antariksh Station by 2030. Supranayi's inspiration stems from the idea that India should have the capability to utilize space for industrial and defense applications, similar to Russia, China, and the USA. She emphasizes the advantages of space manufacturing, including the absence of gravity, which leads to purer and larger crystals, benefiting industries like pharmaceuticals and semiconductors.
AnduraX's spaceplane design, inspired by the space shuttle, is set to land smoothly on land, unlike current vehicles that land in the ocean, making it the first private company in India to build a reusable spaceplane.
